I defeated my vertigo and tested a turn on the big wheel … and parasailing. I assure you that the two are well worth the trip to see Cannes from above!

This is an event this summer, for the first time in Cannes, the Ferris Wheel  made a noticeable arrival.

La Grande Roue - Esplanade Pantiero

La Grande Roue – Esplanade Pantiero

Set-up on the Esplanade Pantiéro, just next to the Palais des Festivals and in front of the Old Port, the big wheel operates throughout the summer (until August 27) for the pleasure of discovering Cannes from above.

For 5 euros (unbeatable price if you already had the opportunity to practice this activity in other cities), it is the opportunity to discover the entertainment and the beauty of the sites of Cannes. Each basket is illustrated by a picture of an outstanding site of Cannes. Perfect to calm down my apprehension, the big wheel is high enough to get a full view (40 meters) and not too high for not returning to earth with the knees all dizzy. Open every day from 4:00 pm, and free for children less than 3 years old.

Being familiarized with the height of the big wheel, I was tempted to try a stronger feeling and I decided to test the adventure of the parasailing.

The experience is simply amazing. Seated in a harness, I am ready for a 360-degree panoramic ride. The takeoff is done directly from the boat specially fitted with a platform to take-off and land. The ascension is smooth; all slowly, the certified sailor, pilot of the boat, played with the altitude – and my sensations – alternating with moments of great height (up to 100 meters) and with almost the brushing of my toes against the sea. Everything is extreme in these sensations, either we are looking to the Lérins islands or the coast, the view is breathtaking.

The fee is between 60 and 150 euros according to the services; the tariffs on the beaches of the boulevard du Midi are the most affordable (from 60 euros for a individual tour for 15 minutes); on the Croisette, the tours are either for two or three persons and vary from 120 to 200 euros depending on the number of persons and the pontoons.
